Opening-day leaderboards are a memory exercise for Hindi film audiences: they tell us whose fan base mobilises early, whose release date dares the calendar, and which title can turn anticipation into an event. This week’s update shifts one slot.
The first-day scorecard for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part One has landed: Rs 76 crore gross across India, with the Hindi version accounting for Rs 54 crore gross (Rs 45 crore nett). The mythological action drama, led by Ranbir Kapoor alongside Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey and Yash, has entered the all-time top 15 opening days at the Indian box office.
Where Ramayana stands
The film is the 15th biggest opener in Indian box office history, according to Pinkvilla’s provisional trade estimates. It sits just Rs 1 crore behind Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo, which holds the next slot. That is not a festive number by any stretch: the pre-Diwali period is generally considered a lean phase for openings, and no title among the top 14 had arrived during the Diwali window. Ramayana’s entry, then, is a scheduling exception as much as a commercial milestone.
How the list looks
Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 holds the top spot with a Rs 191 crore gross opening, still far ahead. The second position belongs to Dhurandhar: The Revenge, making it the biggest Bollywood opener on the list. The leaderboard is dominated by South-led titles; star-driven southern releases tend to be heavily front-loaded, converting advance hype into a huge first day.
- Pushpa 2 — Rs 191 crore gross, No. 1 all-India opening day
- Dhurandhar: The Revenge — No. 2 overall and the biggest Bollywood opener
- Ramayana: Part One — Rs 76 crore gross, 15th overall and fourth Bollywood film in the top 15
- Other Bollywood entries — Jawan and Adipurush round out the Hindi film presence
Only four Bollywood titles feature in the top 15: Dhurandhar 2, Jawan, Adipurush, and Ramayana. That imbalance matters because Bollywood’s biggest films often rely on legs, while front-loaded openings are more common in fan-driven southern markets.
Why the comparisons carry a caveat
Pinkvilla cautions that some past numbers have been revised retrospectively because 3D surcharges are now included for Ramayana: Part One, while older 3D releases such as RRR, Kalki 2898 AD, Adipurush and 2.0 were previously reported without those charges. The figures are provisional estimates and may be updated if better information arrives.
For Hindi cinema readers, the takeaway is twofold. First, Ramayana has opened high enough to join a list usually reserved for franchise or fan-mobilisation events. Second, its rank could shift if final figures or adjusted comparisons move. What holds for now is the record: Pushpa 2 remains untouched at the top, and Ramayana has claimed its place in the all-time opening-day conversation.
