Ramayana advance hits ₹36.65 cr but trails Toxic

The opening numbers

Four days before its worldwide release on November 5, Ramayana: Part 1 has banked ₹36.65 crore in Indian advance gross across its first two days, according to figures tracked by Sacnilk and reported by The Times of India. That total is made up of ₹23.87 crore for opening day and ₹12.78 crore for the second day.

By 5 pm on Sunday, day one alone had sold 5.42 lakh tickets across 13,165 shows at an 18 per cent occupancy; excluding blocked seats, the day-one figure stood at ₹20.04 crore on 4.50 lakh tickets, with 42 housefull shows. Over the two days, the film has moved 8.38 lakh tickets across 24,510 shows.

  • Maharashtra: ₹4.58 crore day-one gross (₹3.66 crore excluding blocked seats)
  • Karnataka: ₹4.36 crore (₹3.95 crore excluding blocked seats)
  • Delhi: ₹3.58 crore (₹2.96 crore excluding blocked seats)

The premium-format response is the sharpest signal in this data. IMAX, 4DX and Dolby Cinema contributed ₹4.74 crore, including blocked seats, from only 360 shows — roughly 23 per cent of the film’s total advance booking. A thin slice of higher-priced inventory is carrying nearly a quarter of the pre-release haul.

Why the Toxic benchmark matters

The film is still behind Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, which recorded ₹73.43 crore in day-one advance gross including blocked seats. Toxic sold 18,48,067 tickets across 25,654 shows before release, and ₹58.27 crore after excluding blocked seats. Ramayana’s opening-day advance remains well behind that figure.

The comparison matters because Yash is not just a rival star; he also plays Ravana in Ramayana. Toxic gave the industry a fresh benchmark for pan-Indian event cinema, and Ramayana — a two-part project with a reported combined budget of ₹4,000 crore — is being measured against that pace, not merely against a safe opening.

The elements in play

Ramayana: Part 1 brings together Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. With Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman composing, producer Namit Malhotra has built a release that is as much a technical event as a mythological one.

Overseas, North American premiere pre-sales have crossed $1 million, and total advance bookings across all available dates internationally have reached $3.5 million. The opening weekend is projected to collect more than $20 million internationally, according to the source.

What to track before November 5

With four days left, the indicators are whether Maharashtra and Karnataka continue to lead, whether premium formats hold their outsize share, and whether pre-sales for the final two days close the gap with Toxic. The first day’s 42 housefull shows point to early pockets of concentrated demand, not yet a broad national wave.

For Hindi cinema, the advance shows the epic is not simply coasting on nostalgia. Audiences are paying early for formats and states where the scale is most legible. A strong opening is visible; a record-setting one will require the family walk-in audience to match the premium buyers when the film opens.
