Sixteen days into its run, Jailer 2 has pushed its worldwide gross to Rs 776.95 cr, according to box-office tracker Sacnilk. That is Rs 243.21 cr ahead of where the original Jailer stood after the same number of days in 2023, and it leaves the Rajinikanth-starrer within sight of Rs 800 cr.
The day-16 figure was the smallest of the film’s third week so far: Rs 5.50 cr net in India from 8,079 shows. The sequel’s India net total now stands at Rs 435.40 cr; India gross is Rs 509.45 cr, and overseas gross is Rs 267.50 cr.
A Tamil-led run, with Hindi as a passenger
The language split shows where the film’s centre of gravity lies.
- Tamil: Rs 3.75 cr from 3,796 shows — 68.2% of the day’s domestic collection.
- Hindi: Rs 1 cr from 3,310 screenings.
- Telugu: Rs 55 lakh from 799 shows.
- Kannada: Rs 20 lakh from 174 screenings.
For readers who track Hindi cinema, that is a useful distinction: the Hindi version is a meaningful secondary stream, not the engine. With 3,310 Hindi shows, the version is in wide circulation but returned only Rs 1 cr — a reminder that the film’s theatrical identity is firmly Tamil first.
The comparison with Jailer has a shape, not just a gap
The Rs 243.21 cr cumulative lead is the headline, but the underlying run is different. On day 16 in 2023, the first Jailer collected Rs 3.40 cr net and had grown 11.5% over the previous day. The sequel’s Rs 5.50 cr day-16 number is larger, but it is a 12% decline from Thursday’s Rs 6.25 cr.
The bigger base of the sequel is partly about scale. The Tamil version played in 3,796 shows on day 16, against 1,583 Tamil shows for the original at the same stage. More seats, more screens and a bigger opening phase — Rs 334.35 cr net in the first eight days — have built a lead that a more front-loaded hold has not yet surrendered.
What to watch next
The third week is where the pace of the run will determine whether Rs 800 cr arrives quickly or slowly. Week one contributed Rs 334.35 cr net, week two Rs 95.55 cr, and the third week has opened with Rs 5.50 cr. If the Tamil night shows — which reported 28.38% occupancy — continue to carry the film, the milestone is likely; if the midweek slide steepens, the film will still beat the original but with less momentum at the finish.
