Nayyi Navelli jumps 23.1% on Day 2 despite fewer shows

Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli improved on its opening day by a measure that matters more than the topline: it collected more from fewer screens. On Saturday, the horror-comedy added Rs 4 crore in India nett, a 23.1% rise from the Rs 3.25 crore it earned on Friday, while its show count dropped from 6,281 to 5,945.

The two-day India nett now stands at Rs 7.25 crore. With domestic gross at Rs 8.63 crore and Rs 1.50 crore from overseas, the worldwide gross is Rs 10.13 crore, according to trade figures aggregated by Sacnilk.

A stronger crowd, not a bigger release

The day-two details suggest audiences are finding the film rather than the film finding more screens. Overall occupancy improved from 11% on Friday to 14% on Saturday, while the Hindi 2D version reached 21.99%. The late-day bands were particularly strong: night shows recorded 27.15% occupancy, followed by evening at 24.46% and afternoon at 24.08%. Morning shows lagged at 7.77%, which is normal for a title relying on word of mouth.

  • Day two India nett: Rs 4 crore, up from Rs 3.25 crore on Friday.
  • Shows dropped from 6,281 to 5,945, while occupancy rose from 11% to 14%.
  • Two-day worldwide gross: Rs 10.13 crore, including Rs 1.50 crore overseas.

Saturday added 179,695 footfalls, taking the film’s two-day count to 334,706. That is not a large crowd by blockbuster standards, but the direction of travel is the point.

Why a second-day climb carries weight

In the Hindi theatrical market, a film usually holds its widest show count on day one. If a title grows on day two even as shows are trimmed, the reasonable reading is that the first day’s audience has passed the message on. For a soft opener, this is the earliest sign of a holdover rather than a front-loaded sputter.

The Saturday pattern strengthens that reading. The strongest occupancies came late in the day, which often means families and working audiences are making a deliberate choice rather than attending out of opening-day curiosity. That is the audience segment most likely to return on Sunday and carry the film into the working week.

The film’s own lore

Directed by Balaji Mohan in his Bollywood debut and written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, Nayyi Navelli is set in Meerut. Yami Gautam plays Mohini, a new bride whose arrival upends a chaotic household; her brother-in-law begins to suspect a supernatural explanation. The film mixes domestic comedy and horror with regional mythology, and draws on a Ram-Ravan dynamic. The supporting cast includes Addinath M. Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sunita Rajwar, Sonal Jha and Sushmita Mukherjee. It released on October 16.

That premise, domestic comedy folded into a regional myth, is where the film’s word of mouth has to convert. The early numbers give it a reason to be discussed; the next test is whether it can convert discussion into Monday footfalls.
