Jailer 2 holds steady at ₹348.85 crore, eyes ₹360 crore

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 adds ₹14.50 crore on day nine for a ₹348.85 crore India total, with the second weekend seen pushing it toward ₹360 crore.

Jailer 2 crosses ₹348.85 crore on day nine

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has moved into its second week, and the box-office question is no longer how big the opening was but how well the film holds. On day nine, the action sequel added ₹14.50 crore at the domestic box office, taking its India net total to ₹348.85 crore, according to trade figures.

Advance bookings had signalled a strong start. They opened on October 10, five days before release, and by October 14 worldwide pre-sales had crossed ₹80 crore. In India alone, opening-day pre-sales sold 18 lakh tickets, grossing ₹37 crore, before the film opened to ₹59.70 crore net across 15,887 shows.

Day nine holds the line

Jailer 2 closed its first week at ₹334.35 crore. The day-nine addition may look small against that base, but it keeps the film on course for the next milestone: ₹360 crore.

At this stage, the scoreboard reads:

  • Opening day: ₹59.70 crore net
  • First week: ₹334.35 crore
  • Day nine: ₹14.50 crore
  • India total: ₹348.85 crore
  • Next target: ₹360 crore

Why the second-week hold matters

For exhibitors, the second week is a more reliable test than the first. A Rajinikanth release brings a fan rush; what matters now is whether the film can hold evening and weekend occupancy after the initial surge. Because his films are programmed as event releases in the national market, a stable hold influences how many screens are retained against Hindi titles.

The film gives audiences a reason to return. It is a direct sequel to 2023’s Jailer, written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran through Sun Pictures. Rajinikanth is back as Muthu, now working as a supermarket supervisor while the idol-smuggling network from the first film draws closer. The returning cast is joined by SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan.

For Hindi cinema watchers, the signal is not just the Tamil number. A southern tentpole that stays competitive after the opening weekend keeps pressure on the national release calendar, influencing how Hindi distributors plan their own windows.

The comparisons to watch

Trade conversations have begun measuring Jailer 2 against the lifetime totals of Border 2 (₹464 crore) and Hanuman Ansh (₹439 crore). Those figures now serve as the yardstick for the film’s second leg, even as the immediate target remains ₹360 crore.

The immediate checkpoint is the second-weekend number. If the film gains as expected, ₹360 crore comes into range before the next major release. If the dip extends, the conversation will turn from whether it can reach ₹360 crore to how much longer it can hold.
