On a crowded October 23, more than half a dozen Hindi films entered cinemas, but Udta Teer had the clearest pre-release visibility. The Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan starrer crossed the ₹1 crore mark in advance sales before the first show, according to final day-one pre-sales figures reported by Koimoi.
The opening-day arithmetic
Udta Teer has been placed in 6,678 shows across India, with an average ticket price of about ₹240. Final advance booking stood at 41,750 tickets excluding blocked seats. In gross terms, that is ₹1.12 crore; net collections from pre-sales work out to ₹95 lakh.
Those are fair rather than commanding numbers. The film is not an advance-booking-led title, so the first day will depend heavily on over-the-counter sales and word of mouth.
Where a strong opening would land
Trade estimates put the day-one range at ₹3.5-4.5 crore net. If positive early reactions hold and walk-ins pick up, the film could finish at the higher end and overtake Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’s ₹4.38 crore opening to become Khurrana’s third-biggest post-COVID opener.
His post-COVID openings, in descending order, are:
- Thamma – ₹25.11 crore net
- Dream Girl 2 – ₹10.69 crore net
- Pati Patni Aur Woh Do – ₹4.38 crore net
- Doctor G – ₹3.87 crore net
- Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui – ₹3.75 crore net
- Anek – ₹2.11 crore net
- An Action Hero – ₹1.35 crore net
A debut in the ₹3.5-4.5 crore band would put Udta Teer at number three on that list if it clears the Pati Patni Aur Woh Do mark.
Why the benchmark matters
Khurrana’s post-COVID openings cluster in two bands: two big starts above ₹10 crore, and a middle band from roughly ₹2.11 crore to ₹4.38 crore. Udta Teer is expected to land in that middle band, so the commercial question is less whether it will collect well and more whether it can clear one specific threshold.
What to watch next
With several new Hindi releases and holdovers such as Coolie and Drishyam 3 competing for screens, the 6,678-show presence is meaningful. The ₹240 average ticket price is on the affordable side, which may help walk-in traffic. For readers tracking the box office, the figure to follow is not the advance booking but the evening audience response. Early reactions, according to Koimoi, are favourable; that gives the film a chance to convert visibility into a stronger-than-expected first day. If walk-ins convert at a higher rate than pre-sales suggest, expect show counts to hold or expand over the weekend. We will return once official figures arrive.
