Prime Focus Studios has confirmed that Anupam Kher will voice Jatayu in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 1, releasing a new poster that centres on the mythological bird. The announcement arrives eight days before advance bookings open on Dussehra, October 20.
A voice for courage
The poster pairs a tight close-up of Jatayu’s face with a wider image of the bird in full wing-span. The makers’ note says the character fought not for victory but for what was right, and closes with the line “Jatayu. The Wings of Dharma.”
In the epic, Jatayu is remembered for confronting Ravana to protect Sita even though Ravana is far stronger. Casting Kher suggests the film wants the character’s moral authority to register through the voice, not just the spectacle.

The ensemble includes Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. In a production of this scale, voice casting is not a minor detail: the performer must carry the story’s weight against a large visual canvas.
Tying the Jatayu reveal to the Dussehra bookings window also gives audiences a concrete next step. Rather than leaving anticipation abstract, the campaign points it toward seats on sale. For a film arriving in five languages on a single day, the advance window is an early measure of demand.
Hindi cinema has long treated the Ramayana as a shared cultural memory, and audiences read such adaptations as much through casting, voice and visual scale as through plot. Kher’s Jatayu is exactly the kind of detail that will be judged within that longer record.
