Renuka Shahane on Juhu firing and 3 arrests: act at roots

Renuka Shahane described the Juhu firing as a very scary thing and urged action from the roots after Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt and three were held.

Renuka Shahane: Juhu firing must end at the roots

Renuka Shahane has responded to the 18 October firing near Tiger Shroff in Juhu with a warning that goes beyond one celebrity: a single public act of gun violence can change how the film industry lives and works.

What happened in Juhu

On 18 October, gunfire was reported outside a football club near Pushpa Narsee Park in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Tiger Shroff was not injured. His driver and an autorickshaw driver were reportedly hurt, and three suspects were later apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan. The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the alleged roles of those detained.

The names involved have drawn attention, but the incident is also being read as a safety event for the wider Hindi film industry.

Renuka Shahane’s warning

Speaking to IANS, Renuka Shahane described the firing as “a very scary thing” and said she was relieved that Tiger Shroff was safe. Her concern was less about one accused and more about the climate such violence creates.

She said the fear is that such violence changes ordinary movement: “no one will come out of the house,” and people may move everywhere “with security.” She added that motives in a firearms case are often hard to read. “The people who do such things are so mad,” she said, with weapons in their hands, according to the report. Her prescription was blunt: the problem should be “destroyed from the roots.”

  • Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt on 18 October.
  • Two people were reported injured: his driver and an autorickshaw driver.
  • Three suspects were apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan.
  • Renuka Shahane wants the problem addressed “from the roots.”

Why this matters

Shahane’s comment frames the event as public safety, not celebrity gossip. A shooting in a public area, near a well-known actor, tests confidence in everyday spaces—the same streets, clubs and travel routes used by crews, drivers and audiences.

For an industry whose work depends on public appearances, outdoor schedules and fan access, a fear-driven move toward private security would add cost and distance. Her line that “nothing like this has happened in the industry for many years” suggests that the current moment is being measured against a longer memory of risk.

What to watch

The immediate question is investigative: what did the three suspects allegedly do, and what was the motive? The report says the investigation is expected to establish the circumstances and the alleged involvement of those detained.

The broader question is institutional: whether the incident leads to better protection without turning public spaces into fortresses. Several industry figures, including Ravie Dubey, Mika Singh, Vidyut Jammwal and Shatrughan Sinha, have expressed concern according to the report.
