Yami Gautam on Nayyi Navelli’s Rs 11.65 cr weekend

Yami Gautam says a solo or two-film release window is now difficult as Nayyi Navelli totals Rs 11.65 crore net in its opening weekend beside Jailer 2.

Yami Gautam: Solo windows are getting difficult

When a fan suggested that Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli had landed in a difficult slot beside Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, the actor did not treat the clash as an accident of bad planning. Her reply on X described it as the new normal for theatrical distribution.

The fan wrote that the film was good, but that the timing with Jailer 2 was “not optimum.” Gautam’s response was direct: “Nowadays to get a solo or just 2 films release window is difficult.” She added that it is very difficult to make a successful film today, and that she was grateful to the audience for giving the movie a chance.

A weekend in the shadow of a tentpole

Nayyi Navelli, a horror-comedy directed by Balaji Mohan, opened on October 16, a day after Jailer 2. It follows Mohini, a bride in a Meerut joint family who is suspected of being a daayan. The opening weekend figures, reported by Sacnilk, showed gradual improvement:

  • Friday: Rs 3.25 crore net in India
  • Saturday: Rs 4 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 4.40 crore

The three-day India net total came to Rs 11.65 crore, with a domestic gross of Rs 13.88 crore. Alongside it, Jailer 2 collected Rs 55.85 crore net in India on Sunday alone, taking its domestic net total to Rs 199.90 crore and its worldwide gross to Rs 424.25 crore.

The release calendar is the real story

Gautam’s comment points to a structural shift. Hindi films once treated an empty Friday as a planning assumption; now, a solo or two-film window is not something smaller productions can reliably secure. Star vehicles, festive dates and the pressure to recover theatrical investment have left fewer open weekends.

For a mid-size film, opening next to a tentpole such as Jailer 2 has practical consequences: it competes for showtimes, audience attention and the kind of social-media conversation that drives casual moviegoing on Saturday and Sunday. That makes the three-day trend for Nayyi Navelli notable: it moved upward rather than sliding.

A graceful frame for a hard slot

Gautam also chose not to position herself against Rajinikanth. She said she was a huge fan, that it was an honour to have “my small film release along with sir,” and that she was looking forward to watching Jailer 2. The reply acknowledges the scheduling difficulty while turning a perceived disadvantage into respect for the bigger film’s reach.

The next test is the first weekday hold. If Nayyi Navelli can sustain itself after the opening weekend, that durability will matter more than the size of day one in a crowded frame.
