Yami Gautam Dhar’s Nayyi Navelli took an expected step down on its first Monday, collecting an estimated Rs 2.5 crore nett. That brings the horror comedy’s four-day India total to around Rs 13.5 crore after a Rs 3 crore Friday and Rs 4 crore each on Saturday and Sunday.
The Monday number is not a collapse, but it is the first real indication of how the film will behave after the opening weekend. For a mid-sized Hindi film, this is the phase where theatrical legs are made or lost.
Why the first Monday matters
Opening day can be powered by pre-release interest, and the weekend benefits from audiences who plan a film outing. Monday asks the film to pull ticket buyers on its own, without the cushion of the weekend. That is why the trade watches the first working-day hold as an early sign of audience acceptance.
Measured against Sunday, the Monday number is a fall of about 38 per cent. Looked at as retention, Monday held about 62.5 per cent of Sunday’s Rs 4 crore figure. That is a routine working-day correction after an Rs 11 crore weekend, but it also sets a floor. If Tuesday and Wednesday stay close to Monday, the film has room to build; if they slide further, the first-week total will begin to stall.
Four days in numbers
- Friday: Rs 3 crore nett
- Saturday: Rs 4 crore nett
- Sunday: Rs 4 crore nett
- Monday: Rs 2.5 crore nett
- Total: Rs 13.5 crore nett
The Haq benchmark
Nayyi Navelli has already opened better than Yami Gautam Dhar’s previous release, Haq, on its opening weekend. That gives the new film a favourable internal comparison, though the two titles are very different propositions. A star’s previous film sets a recovery benchmark, and Nayyi Navelli has cleared that opening bar.
Set in Meerut, Nayyi Navelli follows a troubled household whose fortunes change after a mysterious new bride arrives. Her abilities appear to bring peace and prosperity, but they also raise suspicion: some characters believe she has supernatural powers, while others fear she is a witch. The film stars Yami Gautam Dhar alongside Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha, Sunita Rajwar, Rajesh Dubey, Aaditya Kulshreshth and Prateek Pachauri. Balaji Mohan directs from a script by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, with Aanand L Rai among the producers.
What to watch next
The practical question is not whether the film can repeat its weekend, but whether the daily number stabilises. A hold near Rs 2 crore through Tuesday and Wednesday would be a workable outcome. A sharper drop would mean the film is front-loaded and dependent on the opening weekend.
The source describes the early response as mixed, which makes the weekdays more important. The Monday figure is credible enough to keep the conversation open, but the second Friday hold will be the stronger verdict. Box-office figures here are trade estimates, not certified accounts.
