Mumbai: The final chapter of Hindi cinema’s most successful crime-thriller franchise has begun with the biggest opening the series has seen. Drishyam 3: The Conclusion, led by Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, collected approximately Rs 197.50 crore net in India in its first four days, according to early estimates from Sacnilk. That is already more than the original Drishyam earned over its entire domestic theatrical run.
Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film also stars Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Jaideep Ahlawat. It opened on October 2, 2026, on the Gandhi Jayanti holiday, a date that gave the finale a wider opening frame than either of its predecessors.
The franchise by the numbers
The comparison shows how quickly the property has grown across eleven years.
- Drishyam (2015): Rs 5.85 crore opening day; approximately Rs 67.13 crore net lifetime in India.
- Drishyam 2 (2022): Rs 15.38 crore opening day; approximately Rs 240.54 crore net lifetime in India.
- Drishyam 3 (2026): Rs 62 crore opening day; approximately Rs 197.50 crore net in four days.
Drishyam 3’s opening day is more than ten times the first film’s opening and four times the sequel’s. It needed only two days to pass the 2015 original’s lifetime domestic total.
The four-day shape
The early estimates point to a holiday-led start: roughly Rs 62 crore on Friday, Rs 53.50 crore on Saturday and Rs 61 crore on Sunday, before an estimated Rs 21 crore on Monday, as reported by Sacnilk.
The Monday number is the first genuine test of staying power. A festive date and the promise of a franchise conclusion can generate a large opening; the working week that follows reveals whether audiences are recommending the film or simply completing the ritual.
What the record means
The first film, directed by Nishikant Kamat, opened modestly at Rs 5.85 crore in 2015 and became a word-of-mouth success, eventually earning around Rs 67.13 crore net in India and approximately Rs 110.40 crore worldwide. The 2022 sequel turned that affection into scale, collecting about Rs 240.54 crore net domestically and a reported worldwide gross of around Rs 345 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.
The final instalment has already overtaken the original’s lifetime. The remaining benchmark is the sequel’s Rs 240.54 crore India total. With Rs 197.50 crore banked in four days, Drishyam 3 needs about Rs 43 crore more through the rest of its run to claim the franchise record.
That target is achievable but not automatic. The second-weekend hold, and not the holiday, will decide whether the conclusion becomes the series’ biggest hit. It is a clean case of franchise equity: each chapter has converted the previous film’s goodwill into a larger opening.
