Sanki casts Border 2’s Medha Rana opposite Ahan Shetty

Medha Rana, seen in Border 2 opposite Varun Dhawan, will play Ahan Shetty's love interest in Tinu Suresh Desai's action romance Sanki, shooting now in Bhopal.

Border 2's Medha Rana is Ahan Shetty's lead in Sanki

Sanki, the action love story directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, has its leading pair. Medha Rana, who was seen earlier this year in Border 2 opposite Varun Dhawan, has signed on to play Ahan Shetty’s love interest.

The two actors already share screen history: both were part of the Border 2 ensemble in 2026, though in different pairings — Shetty with Anya Singh and Rana with Dhawan. Sanki now turns those parallel castmates into a lead pair for the first time.

Why Rana waited

A source quoted in the report says Rana held off after Border 2’s “spectacular success” before committing to her next project. When the Sanki script was narrated to her, she was convinced this was the big one she had been holding out for.

The role that persuaded her is a mix of romance, intensity and a heavy dose of action. For the past two months she has been in intensive preparation — workshops and character work — and she has now joined Shetty and the unit in Bhopal, where production is under way.

The Border 2 connection

The source makes the link explicit: the casting of Rana and Shetty “worked wonders in Border 2 even though they were cast alongside different actors,” and putting them opposite each other now, the source says, is “nothing short of fireworks on screen.”

The reunion is not the only one in Shetty’s slate. He is also working with Anya Singh, his Border 2 co-star, in 1920: Cold Winter — which makes Sanki his second project with a Border 2 alumnus.

Casting from a recent blockbuster’s ensemble is an old Bollywood play with a modern payoff: the audience already knows both faces, but the film gets the freshness of a new combination. Sanki is placing that bet on action — the genre where pairings do much of the marketing work — rather than on nostalgia for a jodi that never actually existed.
