Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is not simply holding in its second weekend – it is resetting the ladder for Tamil releases this year. By the end of its tenth day, the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel had crossed the Rs 363-crore mark in provisional India net collections and was closing in on a new worldwide benchmark.
The day-10 picture
Live figures reported by Sacnilk put Saturday’s India net at Rs 14.36 crore from 8,721 shows. The Tamil version supplied Rs 10.06 crore from 4,271 shows; the Telugu version added Rs 2.73 crore from 1,397 shows; and the Hindi version contributed Rs 1.57 crore from 3,053 shows.
- Provisional India net: Rs 363.21 crore
- India gross: Rs 425.49 crore
- Overseas gross through day nine: Rs 219.50 crore
- Worldwide gross through day nine: Rs 628.05 crore
The first week had already produced Rs 334.35 crore in India net. Since then, daily collections settled into a familiar second-week rhythm: Rs 17.15 crore on day eight, Rs 14.50 crore on day nine, and Rs 14.36 crore in the latest live count.
What the language split says
For Hindi cinema watchers, the most instructive detail is the gap between versions. The Hindi version is playing on 3,053 screens but collected Rs 1.57 crore, while the Tamil original managed Rs 10.06 crore from a little over 4,200 screens. That is not a sign of weakness; it is a map of demand. A Tamil-led title is now powering an all-India number, with the Hindi version functioning as supplementary revenue rather than the main engine.
For an audience that follows Hindi cinema closely, that is also a reminder that theatrical energy in 2026 is coming from star-led regional originals as much as from Hindi-language productions. The Hindi version’s Rs 1.57 crore is modest, but it is incremental money on a film whose economics are already secured by the Tamil and Telugu markets.
The picture also reframes the pan-India conversation. Instead of asking whether a dubbed Hindi version works, the more useful question is whether the original-language market can carry the release far enough. Here, it has: the film is now the biggest Tamil release of 2026, ahead of the original Jailer, Vijay’s Leo and Coolie.
The next benchmark
The reference point is Rajinikanth’s own 2.0, which Sacnilk records at Rs 691 crore in worldwide gross. Jailer 2 was at Rs 628.05 crore through day nine, so that figure is not ceremonial. If the second Sunday holds, the sequel could pass it.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 returns Rajinikanth as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, pulled back into violence when a new threat disturbs his family’s peace. The cast includes Vidya Balan, Vijay Sethupathi, S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff, with cameos by Mohanlal, Hrithik Roshan and Shiva Rajkumar.
For now, the sensible reading is to treat Saturday’s number as provisional and watch the second-Sunday hold. Live tracking can move as final data arrives, and official studio confirmation is still the sturdier number to quote.
