Udta Teer day 1: Rs 4.10 cr, 15.65% occupancy

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's spy comedy Udta Teer takes Rs 4.10 crore net on day one with 15.65% occupancy across 6,265 shows.

Udta Teer opens at Rs 4.10 cr with 15.65% occupancy

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy Udta Teer opened in theatres on Friday, October 23, 2026, with Rs 4.10 crore in India net collections, according to early trade figures reported by Sacnilk. The first-day India gross was Rs 4.83 crore. That is a modest base, and the weekend will decide whether the film can convert interest into momentum.

Opening day, in numbers

The film played 6,265 shows and recorded 187,849 footfalls, which works out to an average of Rs 6,544 per show. Overall occupancy for Hindi 2D screenings stood at 15.65%. The showtime curve was uneven:

  • Night shows: 25% — the strongest slot of the day
  • Afternoon shows: 14.46%
  • Evening shows: 13.77%
  • Morning shows: 5.08%

Occupancy measures the proportion of available seats sold, so it captures how efficiently the release used its screens. A 15.65% overall occupancy across 6,265 shows means there is significant unsold capacity, which is also the opportunity for the next two days. The fixed-screen reality makes the weekend target clearer: if the film can lift afternoon and evening occupancy without losing the night audience, the total will improve quickly.

Why Saturday matters more than the total

For a star-led Hindi release, the day-one figure rarely tells the whole story. The key question is whether it grows on Saturday and Sunday. With night shows already at 25%, the film has one clear pocket of demand. The challenge is the rest of the day: afternoon and evening shows need to move toward the night number, and morning shows need to shake off their 5.08% start.

If the curve flattens or the total dips, the opening day will be remembered as the film’s ceiling rather than its floor. If word of mouth improves, the stronger night slot gives Udta Teer a foothold to build from. That is why the second-day number, not the first-day figure, will be the more useful signal.

The film and the early verdict

Directed by Aakash Kaushik, Udta Teer follows Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani agent played by Khurrana, who takes the identity of Vikrant Thapar to infiltrate India’s Counter Terrorism Squad. His assignment turns inward when he is asked to find a mole, while his wife Yamini works in the Defence Ministry. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover.

ETimes’ three-star review said the star “once again picks an interesting premise and delivers a committed performance,” but argued that the film’s identity change ultimately weakens it: a story that “begins by taking a refreshing detour, eventually plays it safe.” That kind of verdict leaves room for the audience to decide, which is exactly why the weekend hold will be telling.
