Spirit shifts to Oct 29, 2027; Diwali clash with Ramayana 2

Spirit moves from March 5 to October 29, 2027, putting the Prabhas action thriller into the Diwali frame and a potential Ramayana Part 2 clash.

Spirit moves to Diwali 2027, Ramayana 2 clash possible

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit has traded its early-2027 slot for the festival calendar. The Prabhas action thriller, earlier scheduled for March 5, 2027, will now release worldwide on October 29, 2027, coinciding with Diwali.

A festival claim

The shift moves the film from a first-quarter release into one of Hindi cinema’s most rewarding theatrical windows. Diwali brings premium ticket rates, larger screen allocation and family audiences. For a film of this scale, that is a statement of box-office intent rather than a routine postponement.

It also opens a familiar festival question: crowding. The new date could put Spirit alongside Ramayana Part 2, the second instalment of Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra’s mythological epic starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi. The actual collision depends on the final schedule of both films, but the possibility is now on the table.

What the project carries

Spirit was announced on October 23, 2025, Prabhas’s birthday, with the sound-story teaser “One Bad Habit”. It centres on an intense police officer; Prabhas plays an IPS officer, while Vivek Oberoi appears in an antagonist role. Triptii Dimri and Aishwarya Desai also feature.

  • Announced: October 23, 2025
  • First look: January 1, 2026
  • Original date: March 5, 2027
  • New date: October 29, 2027, during Diwali

Vanga has written and directed the project. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Krishan Kumar and Prabhakar Reddy Vanga, under T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures. The first-look poster, released on January 1, 2026, showed Prabhas in a rugged look with long hair and visible injuries.

Why the date matters

For audiences who follow the Hindi film business, the change reframes Spirit as a festival event with a longer, more expensive marketing runway. It also raises the stakes on how exhibitors, distributors and competing productions allocate screens in the back half of 2027.

Diwali clashes are not new to the record. Hindi cinema has repeatedly placed two large films in the same holiday weekend, and the outcome usually turns on word of mouth, screen sharing and how quickly a film reaches first-day capacity. A date shift like this is therefore less about avoiding competition than about choosing which competition to face.

What to watch next is not just the film’s campaign but whether Ramayana Part 2 adjusts its own window. In a tight holiday frame, the first film to lock showtimes and audience attention often sets the terms for everyone else.
