Ganesh Acharya has unveiled the trailer for Ganesh Dust To Stardust, a biographical drama he wrote and directed about his own route from the margins of Hindi cinema to its mainstream song-and-dance centre. Produced by his daughter Soundarya Acharya and presented by V2S Production & Entertainment, the film is scheduled for a December 11 theatrical release.
What the trailer shows
The trailer leans on dance and emotional beats, tracing struggle, sacrifice and determination. The cast includes Shivanshu Soni, Alok Shaw, Sukanya Kalan and Sakshi Pawaskar. Acharya shares screenplay and dialogue credits with Digangana Suryavanshi. Junaid Kumar has composed the music and background score, Sameer Anjaan and Acharya wrote the lyrics, Ajay Pandey is the cinematographer and Rakesh Ram edited the film.
In a statement, Acharya said everyone has the right to dream, but “dreams don’t come true just by dreaming” — the work, sacrifice and forward movement are what the film tries to capture. His daughter said the project is about believing in dreams even when circumstances make them seem impossible.
Why the name carries weight
For readers who follow Hindi cinema closely, Acharya is not a new arrival. He began choreographing in the 1990s and built a catalogue that became part of commercial cinema’s rhythm, including Beedi Jalaile from Omkara, Chikni Chameli from Agneepath and Malhari from Bajirao Mastani. He won National Film Awards for Best Choreography for Hawan Kund from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Gori Tu Lath Maar from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
Biopics are a familiar format in Hindi cinema, but they usually arrive with an outside director or a star actor at the centre. Here, the subject is also the maker: the person shaping the memory, selecting the songs and staging the struggle is the person whose name is on the marquee.
The film in brief
- Opens theatrically on December 11.
- Written and directed by Ganesh Acharya; produced by Soundarya Acharya.
- Presented by V2S Production & Entertainment, with music by Junaid Kumar and lyrics by Sameer Anjaan and Acharya.
What to watch
The trailer has been shared by Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, with Kumar recalling that Acharya’s first song as a choreographer was with him. That peer endorsement frames the project as an industry-recognised story rather than a vanity exercise. Soundarya Acharya’s producing role adds a family lens to the telling, which may sharpen both its emotional authenticity and the audience’s scrutiny of how candid it can be.
The commercial test is whether a self-directed biopic of a choreographer can draw audiences beyond dance loyalists. December 11 is a crowded slot, and a film sold on an individual’s journey will need more than nostalgia to sustain itself. The trailer’s emphasis on sacrifice and determination suggests the team is pitching an underdog story rather than a dance-reel showcase; that choice matters because the emotional arc, not the set pieces, is what gives a biopic repeat value in cinemas.
