Imran Khan’s first lead project after nearly a decade now has a working date. The actor said in an interview with Hindustan Times that the team has been told to plan for December 18 and is working to complete post-production in time.
A date, not a confirmation
“We have been told that they intend to release it in mid-December, on December 18,” Khan said. “Since it’s OTT not theatrical, I don’t think the date makes any difference.”
The film co-stars Bhumi Pednekar. The streaming platform, the storyline and the cast beyond the leads have not been officially confirmed, and the December 18 date remains a reported target rather than an announced premiere.
What a decade away means
Imran Khan was one of the familiar faces of the late-2000s romantic comedy wave. His career is a useful reference for how Hindi cinema’s youth films were positioned then:
- Breakthrough and peak: I Hate Luv Storys, Delhi Belly and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan made him a recognisable romantic-comedy lead.
- Declining returns: Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara! and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein underperformed commercially.
- Last lead role: Katti Batti, co-starring Kangana Ranaut, was released in 2015.
His only recent appearance was a cameo in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, backed by Aamir Khan and co-directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri. The new film is positioned differently: it returns him to the centre of a film rather than a passing scene.
Why the target matters
For Bollywood Chronicle readers, the story is less about a single date and more about how a former screen regular reintroduces himself in a market that has moved to streaming. A year-end OTT window suits a title that relies less on opening-day box office and more on a known face drawing audiences into a platform title. Until the team completes delivery, the only safe marker is that the comeback is now close enough to chase a date.
