Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed Rs 606.05 crore in worldwide gross collections after eight days in cinemas, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India. The film’s India net total stands at Rs 334.35 crore, with Thursday contributing Rs 17.15 crore net from 13,241 shows.
The day-eight grosses: domestic Rs 391.55 crore and overseas Rs 214.50 crore. Thursday’s India net was down 39.1% from Wednesday’s Rs 28.15 crore, a sharp but not unusual mid-week step-down for a front-loaded multi-language release.
The numbers matter not just for their size but for their shape: a Tamil original doing the heavy lifting, Telugu as the strong second market, and Hindi as a third leg that, so far, has not demanded more screens.
How the languages split on day eight
The Tamil version remains the dominant engine. On Thursday, Tamil screenings collected Rs 10.75 crore from 5,883 shows, or about 62.7% of the day’s India net collection. Telugu added Rs 3.60 crore from 2,085 shows, while the Hindi version earned Rs 2.40 crore from 5,095 shows. Kannada contributed Rs 40 lakh from just 178 shows.
- Tamil: Rs 10.75 crore from 5,883 shows; day-eight share about 62.7%
- Telugu: Rs 3.60 crore from 2,085 shows
- Hindi: Rs 2.40 crore from 5,095 shows; occupancy 19.94%
- Kannada: Rs 40 lakh from 178 shows; occupancy 38%
The occupancy data complicate the collection picture. Kannada recorded the highest overall occupancy at 38%, despite the smallest net collection, while Hindi’s 19.94% was the lowest among the four language versions. Tamil 2D occupancy was 32.75%, and Telugu stood at 30.68%.
Why the Hindi window matters
For readers who follow Hindi cinema, the more instructive line is not the worldwide total. The Hindi version of Jailer 2 is a secondary revenue stream: it ran on 5,095 shows on Thursday, nearly as many as Tamil’s 5,883, yet collected only Rs 2.40 crore. In fact, Tamil collected about 4.5 times the Hindi net from a show count only 15% larger. With occupancy under 20%, the Hindi release is currently a convenience for audiences outside the core Tamil and Telugu belts rather than a lead market.
The daily trend frames that position. The film opened at Rs 59.70 crore on October 15, followed by Rs 37.10 crore on Friday, Rs 47.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 55.85 crore on Sunday. Monday brought Rs 42.35 crore, Tuesday Rs 46.80 crore, Wednesday Rs 28.15 crore and Thursday Rs 17.15 crore. Day-eight footfalls were 1,189,753, taking cumulative footfalls to 22,052,867.
The day’s state-wise gross was Rs 20.10 crore: Tamil Nadu led with Rs 7.50 crore, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana added Rs 4 crore, Karnataka Rs 3.65 crore, Kerala Rs 2.20 crore, and the rest of India Rs 2.75 crore.
What to watch next
The second weekend will show whether the Hindi version can hold its screen count. If occupancy remains under 20% while Tamil and Telugu hold firmer, exhibitors may rationally trim Hindi shows, making the Hindi number even more modest. The franchise’s centre of gravity remains Tamil; for Hindi audiences, Jailer 2 is best read as a regional blockbuster with a secondary dubbed presence, not as a Hindi box office event.
