Little Thomas: Adults Wrong Hai gives children the last word

Director Kaushal Oza and producer Ranjan Singh explain how Little Thomas' new song flips the adult gaze ahead of the film's October 23 release.

Little Thomas: children get the last word

Two weeks before Little Thomas opens in cinemas, its makers have released a song that works less like a standard children’s number and more like a small manifesto. ‘Adults Wrong Hai’, out on audio platforms on October 6, argues that the youngest characters in the room see life more clearly than the grown-ups around them.

The track arrives ahead of the film’s October 23 theatrical release. Director Kaushal Oza and producer Ranjan Singh share the lyric credit; Shailendra Barve has composed the music. Oza writes under the pen name Iago.

A line that became the whole tune

Oza first met Barve at the National Awards and was struck by how particular he was about a song he was preparing for the evening. Because Barve had earlier composed ‘Mera Jahan’ for Taare Zameen Par, he seemed right for a story told through a child’s eyes.

Oza brought a rough lyric built around one line: “Hum tum hain right, adults wrong hai.” Barve responded immediately and came back with a tune in one day.

Oza’s intention was a gentle challenge. “I wanted to question the idea that adults have life all figured out,” he said, adding that children “have things right because their joys and sorrows are unfiltered.”

The producer completed the lyric

The song became a collaboration when producer Ranjan Singh heard the scratch. Oza said Singh caught the feeling of the track and wrote the remaining lines. Singh’s affection for children’s songs such as ‘Lakdi Ki Kathi’ and ‘Bum Bum Bole’ shaped his view that a children’s film needed a song from a kid’s perspective.

Singh said he liked the tune Oza and Barve had built, and while the team was discussing how to complete it, the words came to him. Both Oza and Barve approved the addition.

Why the song carries the film’s pitch

For Little Thomas, ‘Adults Wrong Hai’ is not decoration. It is a positioning statement that tells audiences what the film values before a single ticket is sold. A promotional song that merely features children is common; a promotional song that respects how children see the world is harder to pull off.

The song does three jobs for the film:

  • It sets the thesis early: childhood is precious and worth cherishing.
  • It borrows trust: Barve’s Taare Zameen Par lineage signals a thoughtful family film.
  • It personalises the marketing: Oza and Singh wrote the words, so interviews can go deeper than a standard song launch.

Oza said the song conveys the essence of the film: that children and childhood are precious. That, he said, is why he and Singh teamed up to make it in the first place.

Little Thomas is written and directed by Kaushal Oza and produced by Luminoso Pictures, Civic Studios, Good Bad Films and Flip Films, with Anushka Shah, Rajnikant Oza, Charu Oza, Ranjan Singh and Anurag Kashyap among its backers. The film opens theatrically on October 23.
