Prem Keetanu came into its first Monday already needing a hold, and the hold did not arrive. The Hindi remake of the 2024 Malayalam hit Premalu collected an estimated Rs 10 lakh from 685 shows on Day 4, according to Sacnilk figures carried by News18. That is a 64.3 percent fall from Day 3’s Rs 28 lakh, and it leaves the film’s four-day India net total at Rs 1.21 crore.
The Monday number, in context
A steep first-Monday drop is a familiar test in Hindi film trade: it separates films with genuine word of mouth from those that only fill seats over the opening weekend. Prem Keetanu’s reported Rs 3 crore budget makes the test sharper. With India gross at around Rs 1.45 crore, the film has not yet recovered its production cost through theatrical earnings.
Opening against a franchise
The film has been competing with Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion, which is drawing the family audience that a comedy-drama would normally chase. That scheduling pressure is an old Bollywood story—mid-sized films often get a shorter window when a franchise title is dominating screens and conversation.
What may still work
Prem Keetanu is directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, written by Deepak Kingrani, and stars Veer Pahariya, Aafiya Sayed, Aparshakti Khurana, Nikhil Vijay and Rakesh Bedi. In its three-star review, News18 Showsha observed that the film keeps its identity because audiences return to these relatable themes, and it lets its young protagonists be “foolish, dramatic and occasionally ridiculous.” That is the goodwill that could still show up in weekday and second-weekend holds.
- Day 4: Rs 10 lakh from 685 shows, down 64.3% from Day 3’s Rs 28 lakh.
- Four-day India net: Rs 1.21 crore; gross around Rs 1.45 crore.
- Reported budget: Rs 3 crore.
For now, the scorecard is simple: Prem Keetanu has not yet earned back its reported cost, and the weekdays will show whether the film stabilises or quietly recedes.
