The trailer for Parivarik ManuRanjan introduces Pankaj Tripathi and Aditi Rao Hydari in a twisty family comedy premiering on SonyLIV on November 13.

Parivarik ManuRanjan trailer: comedy with a twist

The next Hindi film to watch for may not arrive in theatres. Parivarik ManuRanjan, starring Pankaj Tripathi and Aditi Rao Hydari, will premiere on SonyLIV on November 13, and its new trailer frames the project as a family comedy that is willing to pull the rug out from under its own setup.

What the trailer sets up

Aditi Rao Hydari plays Helen, a house help and property manager who enters the home of Ranjan Dubey, played by Pankaj Tripathi and described in the trailer as the most eligible bachelor. Her arrival quickly becomes neighbourhood gossip: some residents question why she is in his house, while others praise how well she runs the household.

The trailer then changes register. Helen may be leading a double life, and the police arrive looking for someone called Manu Joshi. As Ranjan’s family and friends begin to doubt her, Ranjan decides to take charge of his life with the trailer’s most quotable line: “Enough of being a beta, now it is time to be an Alpha.”

  • Helen’s arrival turns a bachelor’s home into a neighbourhood talking point.
  • A police search for Manu Joshi pushes the plot from domestic comedy toward mystery.
  • Ranjan’s beta-to-Alpha declaration signals the film’s intended tonal shift.

Why the pairing matters

Tripathi has built a career on finding the dignity and comedy in middle-class Indian men, so the casting puts a familiar face at the centre of a story about reputation and suspicion. Hydari, in turn, has moved between period dramas, romances and streaming titles; here she gets a role that asks her to be both warm and plausibly secretive. That combination gives the film a chance to reach comedy loyalists and viewers who want a puzzle.

When the film was announced in 2025, Hydari said she “smiled throughout” the script and was drawn to “the warmth and simplicity at the heart of the story”. Tripathi called the script “charmingly simple and yet irresistibly funny” and noted that it would be his first time working with Hydari.

The creative team

Varun V Sharma directs the film, with Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Himanshu Kishan Mehta and Alicia Zafar producing and Ali Abbas Zafar as creative producer. The story and screenplay are credited to Brijendra Kala, Ali Abbas Zafar and Varun V Sharma, with dialogues by Kala. The ensemble also includes Brijendra Kala, Mukesh Tiwari, Sunita Rajwar, Vijayant Kohli, Karan Chanana and Eklavya Chaudhary.

The film brings Bhanushali Studios Limited and AAZ Films together, and as a direct-to-streaming premiere its real test will be whether the trailer’s twist is enough to hold attention after the opening weekend, when platform algorithms reward completion more than curiosity.

What to do about it

For Hindi cinema followers, the practical step is simple: put November 13 on the calendar and watch the trailer closely for the register change. The marketing has already shown its hand by selling confusion, romance and comedy together, which is an old and effective way to promise a film with more than one gear. That makes the trailer worth reading as a piece of positioning, not just a preview. The November 13 premiere also lands in a crowded season, so the genre switch may be what separates it.
