Karan Johar lauds SRK-Deepika’s King song Tu Mil Jaaye

Karan Johar praises the first song from Shah Rukh Khan's King, calling the SRK and Deepika Padukone track chart-ready after its birthday release.

KJo: King audio, visuals, Queen beauty, Killer abs

The first song from Shah Rukh Khan’s King is out, and Karan Johar has given the campaign a push from inside the industry. After reposting “Tu Mil Jaaye” on Instagram Stories, Johar praised the track’s sound and look, and tagged Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and director Siddharth Anand. His message was as much an endorsement of the film’s packaging as of the song itself.

“King audio! King visuals, Queen beauty and Killer abs. Blockbuster music charts are all ready for this one,” Karan Johar wrote.

A birthday reveal with a bigger job

Unveiled as a birthday surprise for Shah Rukh Khan, who turned 61, “Tu Mil Jaaye” is the first musical glimpse of King before the film opens in theatres on 24 December 2026. The romantic dance number brings SRK and Deepika Padukone back together on screen, and their pairing has quickly become a talking point after the track’s release.

The song does more than play a love angle. It carries two dialogue lines from SRK that gesture toward the film’s register. The first, “Main qaatil nahi, aashiq hoon…”, frames the hero as a lover rather than a killer. The second, “Iss baar dil mein aag lagi hai…”, points toward the action-driven world King promises.

The voices and the crossover

Arijit Singh, Ed Sheeran and Madhubanti Bagchi sing the track. Sachin-Jigar have composed the music, Kumaar has written the lyrics, and Piyush-Shazia have handled choreography. Sheeran also contributes the English rap, giving the Hindi film soundtrack an international feature that can widen the song’s reach before the year-end release.

Why KJo’s note matters

For a film arriving on December 24, 2026, the first song is a campaign statement. Johar’s Instagram Story is not formal criticism; it is a peer’s public vote for the product. When a filmmaker of his reach says the charts are “all ready,” the line becomes shareable social proof the marketing team can recycle across platforms.

Launching a big song on a star’s birthday is a known content strategy: it converts an existing fan milestone into earned media and gives the artist a natural reason to share the asset. Here, the song dropped with SRK at 61, then picked up a peer endorsement within the same window. The combination is more efficient than a standalone reveal because it borrows attention rather than buying it cold.

The release also shows a few campaign choices worth watching:

  • It used SRK’s birthday as the launch peg, borrowing an existing fan moment instead of creating one from scratch.
  • It put the SRK-Deepika pairing front and centre, giving viewers a familiar star equation rather than only a plot tease.
  • It added an Ed Sheeran rap, extending the song’s potential beyond the core Hindi audience.

The next test is momentum: whether “Tu Mil Jaaye” holds attention until December and whether the film’s later songs broaden the same pitch. For now, the song has given King a visible, shareable start.
