Jailer 2 Hits ₹502.65 Cr India Gross, 2nd Tamil Past ₹500 Cr

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 crossed ₹502.65 crore in India gross on Day 16, becoming only the second Tamil film past ₹500 crore, after 2.0.

Jailer 2 Reaches ₹502.65 Cr India Gross

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has passed ₹500 crore in India gross collections on its sixteenth day, reaching ₹502.65 crore in Sacnilk’s live afternoon count. The running total is not final: only a small sample of Day 16 shows had reported by 2:30 pm IST, and the full figure, including the Hindi and Tamil versions, will arrive later in the night.

India net stood at ₹429.55 crore. The milestone is rare company. S. Shankar’s 2.0, the only previous Tamil release to cross the mark, ended at about ₹519 crore India gross, so Jailer 2 has now become the second entrant to that club.

Where the film stands

The source’s Day 16 live sample was thin—17 shows across languages—and the early occupancy was modest:

  • Total India gross: ₹502.65 crore
  • Total India net: ₹429.55 crore
  • Worldwide gross: ₹755.50 crore, the highest for a Tamil film
  • Early Day 16 occupancy: Hindi 8.0% across 6 shows; Tamil 6.2% across 11 shows
  • Day 17 advance booking: ₹3.72 crore gross as of 7:00 am IST

The early occupancy numbers are not a verdict on Day 16; the final count will include more shows and evening audiences.

Why the worldwide number matters

Jailer 2 has already out-earned 2.0 globally. Its ₹755.50 crore worldwide total is the highest ever for a Tamil film, ahead of 2.0’s ₹691 crore lifetime. For the Hindi market, the split is telling: the Hindi dubbed version is now a supporting leg, not the leading one, in the live sample. The film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, brings Rajinikanth back as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, facing a new underworld threat.

What this means for Hindi cinema

For Hindi cinema watchers, the film’s trajectory is a reminder of how southern tentpoles now command pan-India screens and audience attention. The Hindi version’s early occupancy is low but present, which means it is still adding to the cumulative total while the Tamil run remains the principal driver.

The slowdown is normal

Daily numbers have softened—Day 14 gross was ₹7.55 crore, the lowest single day so far and down 21.1% from the previous Tuesday. That follows a ₹70.25 crore opening. For a film in its third week, this is ordinary settling rather than collapse; the picture has already reached most of its audience. The real test is the third weekend and how many screens it holds through the Diwali window.
