Sex Tape is a sex comedy film directed by Jake Kasdan and released by Sony Pictures Releasing in 2014. Jason Segel, Cameron Diaz, Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper, and Rob Lowe star in the film, which was written by Jason Segel, Nicholas Stoller, and Kate Angelo. It tells the story of a married couple who film a sex tape to spice up their relationship, only to find it missing the next morning. This prompts a hurried search in the hopes of finding it.

Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) had a strong romantic connection when they first met, but ten years and two children later, the flame of their love needs rekindling. They decide – why not? – to film a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session to kick things up a notch. It appears to be a good idea until they realize their most private video is no longer private. They know they’re just one click away from being exposed to the world, but as their rush to regain their footage leads to a night they’ll never forget, they’ll discover that their video reveals even more than they bargained for.

Columbia Pictures produced the picture, which was released on July 18, 2014. It made $14.6 million in its first weekend and $126.1 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. It received mostly unfavorable feedback.

The script was purchased by Sony Pictures in June 2011. Nicholas Stoller was in early talks to helm the film but backed out, and Jake Kasdan took over instead. Reese Witherspoon, Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Rose Byrne, and Jennifer Garner were all considered for the female role until Diaz signed on.

The film’s first version was rejected by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India’s Examining Committee. They accepted the film after some revisions, and it was released in the country on August 29, 2014.
