Major Jaidev Rajvansh nicknamed Jai (Kapoor) catches the dreaded terrorist Abhrush in Pukar (Danny Denzongpa). The major then takes a leave of absence to visit his hometown, where he runs into his childhood friend Anjali (Dixit). She is in love with him, but he only views her as a friend. Anjali is devastated to learn of Jai’s love for Miss India Pooja (Shirodkar).
Anjali seeks vengeance, heartbroken and enraged. She steals confidential records concerning Abhrush’s movement from one prison to another from the major’s custody and sends them over to the enemy. This allows Abhrush to flee. Jai, who was once lauded as a hero, is now regarded as a national embarrassment. He is court-martialed by the army. Anjali sees her error and makes an effort to make amends.
