What are the new companies of k-pop?

The core of the South Korean phenomenon’s ever-expanding global influence is Korean pop, or K-pop, music. Many K-pop groups are already dominating the Billboard charts, but a number of well-known artists are breaking through in the international music scene with a successful formula that combines catchy tunes, coordinated choreography, glitzy costumes, and complex multimedia entertainment.

The K-pop music scene has expanded since the early K-pop acts like BIGBANG and Girls’ Generation in 2006 and 2007, respectively. With megahit songs like “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance” dominating the Billboard Charts since 2020, groups like BTS have solidified their reputation as cult favorites.

The BLACKPINK girls are also succeeding and receiving media attention. They have been chosen to represent a number of upscale labels, including Chanel, Dior, Prada, Lisa, and Saint Laurent (Jennie).

K-pop entertainment corporations are making record-breaking earnings and revenues as a result of their enormous global popularity, which motivates them to keep looking for new talent. They are increasingly branching out outside Korea and entering markets in North America, Europe, and other parts of Asia.

    SM Entertainment

Lee Soo-man, who created SM Entertainment, was a trailblazer in advancing the Korean wave internationally. Following his graduation from California State University, Northridge (USA) with a degree in computer engineering, Lee returned to South Korea and founded SM Studio in Apgujeong-dong in Gangnam (Seoul) in 1989. He founded his tiny entertainment organization with the intention of managing artists’ careers, training them, and even launching fresh talent. He was inspired by the MTV period. Originally short for Soo-man, “SM” is now an acronym for “Star Museum.”

    YG Entertainment

Big stars in K-pop have been introduced by YG Entertainment, which was founded by Yang Hyun-suk in 1996, including Big Bang, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK. YG is still a notable agency that has altered the trajectory of K-pop since the 1990s, despite the recent scandal surrounding Big Bang’s Seungri and the alleged exploitation of its musicians.
