Bala is a 2019 Hindi-language satirical black comedy film directed by Amar Kaushik, written by Niren Bhatt, co-authored by Ravi Muppa, and produced by Dinesh Vijan, based on an original narrative about the life of Rohit Sood by Bengali film director Pavel Bhattacharjee.

Balmukund Shukla, a young guy living in Kanpur who is suffering from male pattern baldness, is played by Ayushmann Khurrana, and the movie is about his loss of confidence and the societal pressure that comes with early balding. Colorism is another theme in the film. In supporting roles, Bhumi Pednekar, Yami Gautam, Javed Jaffrey, Saurabh Shukla, and Seema Pahwa appear.

The film’s principal photography began on May 6, 2019, in Kanpur, with additional locations in Mumbai and Lucknow. Sachin–Jigar wrote the soundtrack, and the film premiered in previews on November 7 and in Indian theatres the next day. Bala garnered generally excellent reviews from reviewers and grossed $1.71 billion (US$23 million) worldwide on a budget of $250 million (US$3.3 million).

Khurrana was nominated for Best Actor, Pahwa for Best Supporting Actress, and Bhatt for Best Dialogue at the 65th Filmfare Awards. On September 27, 2020, the film was screened at the Indo-German Filmweek 2020 in Berlin.

Producer Dinesh Vijan revealed the cast of the film. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, was advertised as starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam as a Lucknow-based model, and Bhumi Pednekar as a dusky small-town educated woman.

The film was shot in Mumbai, Lucknow, and Kanpur, and principal photography began on May 6, 2019. On July 7, 2019, filming came to a close with a special wrap celebration. The film had a worldwide gross of 171.5 million dollars after grossing 139.02 crores in India and 32.43 crores elsewhere as of December 9, 2019.
