Devgn CineX hits 60 screens with Gurugram, Rajkot launch

Ajay Devgn’s exhibition venture Devgn CineX has added two more properties to its network, opening multiplexes in Gurugram and Rajkot. The launches take the chain to 60 screens across 20 properties in 19 locations, with 30 more screens planned for this year.

Inside the two new properties

Gurugram’s theatre sits in Sector 82A at Vista Square Mall by SMARR Realty, while the Rajkot multiplex is at Marvel Plus Mall in Mavdi. Each property has seating capacity of 574. Rajkot houses five screens including a Dolby Atmos auditorium; Gurugram’s property features a 55-foot screen that the company describes as among the city’s largest.

  • Both properties offer recliner seating in every auditorium.
  • Food and beverage covers multicuisine and gourmet options.
  • Moviegoers can scan QR codes from their seats to order without leaving the auditorium.

Why the rollout matters

The chain had already announced Hyderabad and Bengaluru entries, so Gurugram and Rajkot widen the footprint into north and west India. The expansion is built on a clear premiumisation pitch: comfort is standardised through recliners, while each city gets a technical showpiece, whether a Dolby Atmos room or a 55-foot screen.

That matters for Hindi cinema because these are the screens where a film can earn peak weekend pricing and where a Dolby mix or a large-format presentation can be experienced as intended. New screen announcements from a mid-sized chain are easy to treat as routine trade news, but they help decide where a film can hold for a second weekend and whether premium formats reach beyond the largest metros.

What to watch

CEO Ajay Agrawal framed the expansion as a local relationship rather than a pure footprint race:

“With our new launches in Gurugram and Rajkot, we are taking another important step in growing Devgn CineX’s presence across key markets. For us, expansion is not just about entering new cities, but about building a strong connection with local audiences and giving them a reason to choose the cinema-going experience we all love.”

If the 30 planned screens open on schedule, the chain should move toward the 90-screen mark. The test will be whether the premium amenities translate into repeat visits in markets that now have several modern multiplex choices.
