Sanjay Leela Bhansali produced and directed Saawariya, a 2007 Hindi-language romance film based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s 1848 short novel “White Nights.” It is the first Bollywood film to be released in North America by a Hollywood company, co-produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and released on November 9, 2007. It’s also one of the first Bollywood films to receive a Blu-ray Disc release. This is also Zohra Sehgal’s last film appearance before her death on July 10, 2014.

Both the lead performers, Ranbir Kapoor, son of actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and Sonam Kapoor, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, make their acting debuts in this film.

 Saawariya

Saawariya had a slow start in theatres and continued to do so for the next two days. The film performed poorly during the weekdays, grossing barely 16 crores in its first week. It saw a significant increase in the second week, but only managed to earn three crores.

The film was a box office bomb, although Ranbir Kapoor garnered great reviews for his performance. He was also nominated for Best Male Debut in a Film. Bhansali made this film as a tribute to his grandma. In this film, Ranbir’s name is Ranbir Raj, which is his grandfather’s name.
