Abundantia spins off aiOn, five-film AI slate due in 2027

Vikram Malhotra's Abundantia Entertainment is evolving aiOn into a standalone AI studio, with a five-film invideo slate arriving from Q1 2027.

Abundantia spins off aiOn as a standalone AI studio

Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment is taking its artificial-intelligence experiment a step further. The company is evolving aiOn, the AI-driven division it launched a year ago, into a standalone studio with its own identity and creative mandate. The new unit will remain inside Abundantia for now, with Malhotra leading the initiative, but it is being structured as a separate production ecosystem rather than a support function.

What the new studio will make

aiOn will produce and back original stories across fully AI-generated projects and hybrid live-action-plus-AI films. It is also building its own creative and production ecosystem. According to Malhotra, the ambition is to take the studio across the value chain.

“Looking into 2027 and beyond, aiON is being shaped as a fully-integrated, total capability movie studio.”

The slate will include films generated entirely in AI as well as live-action and AI combinations, with the first titles rolling out in Q1 2027. Abundantia has also partnered with invideo on five AI-driven films over the next three years.

  • Fully AI-generated films
  • Hybrid live-action and AI projects
  • Research-to-screen integration across the value chain
  • First slate due in Q1 2027

Why the structure matters

The decision to give aiOn a distinct identity, while keeping it backed by Abundantia, is a familiar incubation move in entertainment: separate enough to move quickly, close enough to draw on capital, distribution and producing experience. What makes it notable for Hindi cinema is the scale of ambition attached to a technology still debated in creative circles.

Abundantia is not a marginal player. Since 2013, the company has produced films such as Baby, Airlift, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, Shakuntala Devi, Sherni and Chhorii 2, along with series like Breathe and Daldal. Recent releases include Subedaar, with Anil Kapoor, and Maa Behen, featuring Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri.

A human-first pitch

Malhotra’s framing is deliberate. The studio will continue its “Human-First, AI-Empowered” approach, keeping human authorship and creative vision at the centre while using AI to magnify storytelling. That stance is aimed squarely at writers, directors and actors worried about being replaced. It also positions aiOn as an enabler rather than a threat, even as it pursues fully AI-generated films.

For our readers, the practical question is not whether AI will touch Hindi cinema — it already has — but how independent AI-driven studios will alter commissioning, craft and cost. The first credible answers are due in early 2027.
