Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is rebuilding momentum after a working-day dip. By 5 PM on Saturday, the film had added ₹42.57 crore net in India, lifting its three-day total to ₹155.47 crore, according to trade website Sacnilk figures cited by Hindustan Times.
From a record open to a midweek cool-off
The film began with ₹64.85 crore net on Thursday — the fourth-highest opening day in Bollywood history. Friday brought ₹48.05 crore, a predictable slide on a non-holiday wedged between the release day and the weekend. Saturday’s pace marked the turn: the Kannada version, which had begun slowly despite Yash’s presence as Ravana, also saw occupancy improve through the day.
Advance bookings had already signalled the scale of demand. Tickets worth ₹200 crore were sold worldwide before release, a cushion that helps explain how a Thursday open could still register among Hindi cinema’s biggest first days.
The Adipurush comparison needs a calendar note
The natural benchmark is Adipurush, which had earned above ₹200 crore net in India by the end of its first three days. But those three days were Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ramayana is being judged across a working Thursday, a working Friday and one weekend day — a structural disadvantage that makes the older film’s three-day figure look stronger than a like-for-like comparison would allow.
Even so, Ramayana has out-opened several recent blockbusters on day one:
- Pathaan: ₹57 crore
- Drishyam 2: ₹62 crore
- Animal: ₹63 crore
- Ramayana: ₹64.85 crore
Sunday sets the weekend verdict
The film is now chasing the ₹200 crore net mark, which the trade expects it could cross by Sunday. That would convert a strong pre-Diwali open into a protected holiday week — and give the franchise room to run before its second part arrives.
Ramayana is structured as a two-part adaptation of Valmiki’s epic, produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The cast pairs Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita with Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman; the sequel is dated for Diwali 2028.
The question through Sunday is whether Saturday’s acceleration carries far enough to rewrite the opening-weekend record — or whether it simply lays a strong base for the holiday week ahead. Either way, Ramayana has already become a test of how a two-part epic can be opened in the modern Hindi box office.
