Ramayana, the first part of a planned two-part adaptation of the Indian epic, opened to an estimated Rs 12.69 crore net in India, according to early figures from Sacnilk.com. The five-language release was running across 6,796 shows, with morning screenings beginning at 6.30 am in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Total India gross stood at Rs 14.97 crore.
Day one, language by language
The Hindi version carried the opening, with the wider release and the strongest single-language total. The early estimates split as follows:
- Hindi: Rs 9.16 crore
- Kannada: Rs 1.75 crore
- Telugu: Rs 1.18 crore from 508 shows
- Tamil: Rs 44 lakh from 244 shows
- Malayalam: Rs 16 lakh from 132 shows
The figures are still being updated live, so the final Day 1 number may change.
The advance-booking cushion
Before release, the film had already built momentum at the ticket window. Domestic advance bookings crossed Rs 100 crore gross for the opening weekend, with India the biggest contributor to pre-release business. Combined with international sales, worldwide advance bookings have crossed Rs 150 crore.
That matters because advance sales are an early demand signal: they lock in revenue before word of mouth starts and give a two-part epic some financial cover as it enters the long Diwali corridor.
Why the weekend is the real test
The film is mounted on a reported combined production budget of Rs 4,000 crore. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Goddess Sita and Yash plays Ravana; the ensemble also includes Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Shobana and Vivek Oberoi. AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer composed the music.
Produced by Namit Malhotra in collaboration with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the film has been released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. A second installment is slated for Diwali 2028. The extended opening weekend and Diwali holidays may provide further momentum, but the hold over the coming days will determine whether the opening number becomes a durable run.
