Maatrubhumi’s 4:43 trailer cleared; film eyes Nov 20 or Dec 11

The CBFC cleared Maatrubhumi's 4:43 trailer with a U/A 16+ certificate. The film's censor certificate remains pending, so the team eyes November 20 or December 11.

Maatrubhumi's 4:43 trailer cleared; release slips to Nov 20 or Dec 11

The path to a Maatrubhumi release cleared one hurdle this week, but the bigger one remains. The Central Board of Film Certification passed the trailer for the Salman Khan film on Wednesday, November 4, according to the CBFC website. The promotional cut runs four minutes and forty-three seconds and carries a U/A 16+ certificate.

The film itself has not yet received its censor certificate. That distinction is now shaping the release calendar.

From Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi

The project was originally announced as Battle of Galwan and was rechristened Maatrubhumi earlier this year. It is based on the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese forces in Galwan. Bollywood Hungama reports that the film has faced scrutiny over its content and references to China, particularly as diplomatic signals between the two countries have improved. A government clearance was reported recently, but that is separate from the CBFC certificate the finished film still needs.

What the trailer clearance changes

The approval matters because a trailer is usually the first certified public asset of a film. It allows the makers to run the preview in theatres and on digital platforms. For a politically delicate project, it is also an early indication that the promotional cut satisfies the CBFC. It does not, however, guarantee that the full feature will be cleared on the same terms.

That gap is already visible in the dates. The team had earlier pointed to November 13. A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama said that with the censor certificate delayed, a release next week is unlikely.

  • Trailer status: passed by the CBFC on November 4
  • Certificate: U/A 16+
  • Runtime: 4 minutes 43 seconds
  • Film certification: still pending
  • Dates in play: November 20 or December 11
  • Distribution: Jio Studios, all India

Jio Studios will handle the all-India release, and an announcement of the new date is expected in a few days, according to the report.

Watch the certificate, not the calendar

For audiences, the practical takeaway is to treat both dates as provisional until the censor certificate is issued. A four-minute-43-second trailer is a sizable preview, but it does not amount to a release clearance. Hindi films with national-security subjects sometimes face a second layer of timing pressure, as the title change and reported content scrutiny around Maatrubhumi suggest.

If the certificate arrives quickly, November 20 becomes plausible. If not, the December 11 window gives the makers room to complete the process without another last-minute change.
