Udta Teer nets Rs 11.35 crore in India over two days

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's spy comedy improves 77% on Saturday to Rs 7.25 crore, lifting two-day India net to Rs 11.35 crore.

Udta Teer nets Rs 11.35 crore in India over two days

After a soft start, Udta Teer improved on its first Saturday, but the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan spy comedy is still running well behind the benchmark set by Khurrana’s last major opener. The film added Rs 7.25 crore net in India on day two, taking its two-day domestic net total to Rs 11.35 crore.

The Saturday figure was a rise of roughly 77% over opening day. Occupancy moved from 13% on Friday to 21% on Saturday, even as the show count dipped slightly from 6,265 to 6,164. That arithmetic points to a first-day India net of about Rs 4.10 crore, which is why the percentage jump looks better than the absolute number. A 21% occupancy is healthier than Friday’s 13%, but it is still well short of a capacity audience for a film playing on more than 6,000 shows.

The benchmark is Thamma

For a Khurrana-led film, the relevant yardstick is Thamma, his 2025 opener. That film earned Rs 24 crore net in India on its opening day alone. By that measure, Udta Teer’s opening day was around 83% lower—a reminder that a Saturday spike can be genuine and still leave a film well off the pace expected from the lead star’s stronger vehicles.

What the early totals show

The two-day picture is clearer when net and gross figures are separated.

  • Two-day India net: Rs 11.35 crore
  • Worldwide gross after two days: Rs 16.28 crore
  • Overseas gross: Rs 2.75 crore, including Rs 1.50 crore on Saturday

Net collections are the figure reported after taxes but before distributor and exhibitor shares are deducted. The worldwide gross of Rs 16.28 crore includes overseas gross, which is why it runs higher than the India net figure.

Sunday will set the tone

Udta Teer, directed by Aakash Kaushik and backed by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, follows a Pakistani spy who loses his memory and starts believing he is an Indian counter-terrorism officer. The premise has room for broad comedy, but the film arrived to mixed reviews, and the Sunday hold is the more consequential number than Saturday’s percentage pop.

If the film can hold or build again on Sunday, the weekend starts to look like word-of-mouth traction. If it flattens, the conversation shifts back to the soft start and the distance from Khurrana’s Thamma. For now, Udta Teer has improved—but it has not yet changed its story.
