Drishyam The Conclusion to top ₹350 cr, Ajay Devgn’s biggest

Drishyam The Conclusion is set to cross Rs 350 crore and end Tanhaji's six-and-a-half-year run as Ajay Devgn's biggest hit.

Drishyam The Conclusion heads past ₹350 cr

Record in sight

Drishyam The Conclusion has crossed Rs 200 crore and is now on course to finish above Rs 350 crore at the domestic box office, a result that would make it Ajay Devgn’s highest-grossing film. The current benchmark is Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, which collected Rs 279.55 crore in 2020 and has held the actor’s lifetime record for six and a half years.

The scale of the opening surprised the trade. According to distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal, most people had projected a first-day figure of Rs 35-40 crore; the film instead collected Rs 62 crore on day one. That gap between expectation and result is one reason the record is now treated as a matter of when, not if.

Why the milestone matters

The film’s run is notable because it is not built on the usual commercial tools. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that the film has no songs and no action, yet it is delivering these numbers. That points to an audience willing to reward a connected thriller, and to a market less dependent on a narrow formula than the opening-day expectations suggested.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan called it Ajay Devgn’s “biggest solo hit”, a distinction that matters because big star vehicles are often ensemble affairs. Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, said the film is already the actor’s biggest opener, biggest weekend, and biggest overseas grosser before it takes the lifetime record.

The performance is also a reminder that star power and character power are different multipliers. A sequel with a returning protagonist carries an accumulated audience relationship that an original cannot replicate in one opening weekend. Producers who treat that relationship as an asset can plan budgets and release dates around it, rather than relying on the actor’s face alone to open the film.

What it tells us about the next releases

The trade is already connecting this result to Golmaal 5, which will bring Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar together. Raj Bansal said the success should guarantee a big opening; Chauhan suggested that if Drishyam The Conclusion can open at Rs 62 crore, Golmaal 5 could open at Rs 70-80 crore.

There is a wider lesson here for how Hindi cinema schedules its biggest stars. The value in the Drishyam result is not only the record but the proof that returning characters can out-open an original star vehicle. The suggested operating model in trade circles is to keep originals alive while building two franchise releases a year around proven characters, and to invest in creating new franchises such as a potential Bhooth Bangla series.

  • Drishyam The Conclusion crossed Rs 200 crore and is projected to finish above Rs 350 crore.
  • Tanhaji’s Rs 279.55 crore record has stood since 2020.
  • It is already Ajay Devgn’s biggest opener, weekend, and overseas grosser.
  • Trade expectation for day one was Rs 35-40 crore; the film opened at Rs 62 crore.
