Mumbai: The firing on Tiger Shroff’s car in Juhu on October 18 was the end point of a much wider surveillance effort, according to police sources cited in a new report. Eleven people have now been arrested, and the alleged plan appears to have shifted repeatedly before it settled on the actor.
During preliminary questioning, the accused claimed that Salman Khan was the first target. Reconnaissance around his Galaxy Apartments home was abandoned because the security was seen as too hard to get past. The suspects then reportedly looked at the residences of Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar before deciding that Shroff was easier to reach.
A wider map of celebrity homes
Investigators say the accused spent roughly a month watching the area near Aamir Khan’s Bandra residence and returned on three separate occasions. The actor was often away filming or stayed indoors, which made him a harder target, according to the police account.
Police are also examining an audio clip and a social media post attributed to Arzoo Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi. The material reportedly criticises Aamir Khan’s third marriage to Gauri Spratt, presents it as contrary to “Sanatan” culture and invokes “love jihad” while threatening the actor. Both are now part of the broader investigation. Indian law does not define “love jihad”; the Union Home Ministry told the Lok Sabha in 2020 that no such term exists in statute.
Why Tiger Shroff
Shroff was leaving the Pushpa Narsee Ground after a football game when two men fired five to six rounds at his car and fled on a motorcycle. The 36-year-old actor was largely unhurt, but his driver and a bystander were injured.
The accused are said to have learned about his Sunday football routine from Instagram posts and reels. In their account, that consistency made him a practical target: unlike Salman Khan, he was not surrounded by a heavy security layer.
The chain of events
- Salman Khan: original target; plan abandoned after Galaxy Apartments was found heavily secured.
- Aamir Khan: Bandra home reportedly surveyed three times over about a month.
- Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar: residences also reported among those surveyed.
- Tiger Shroff: chosen as the more accessible target after his routine was mapped from social media.
Eleven arrests have been made so far, with the accused traced to Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Gangster Anil Pandit, who allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post, is a wanted accused. Investigators suspect he is connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and may be operating from the United States.
The reported sequence—from a heavily protected star to a more accessible one—suggests a target-selection logic that police are now trying to reconstruct. For an industry built on public visibility, the case raises a direct question: when does sharing a routine online become a safety risk? Investigators are also trying to determine whether the shooting was aimed at one person or meant to intimidate the Hindi film industry as a whole.
