Neha Dhupia Defends Deepika Padukone: ‘Stop Shaming Working Moms for Asking What They Deserve’

Deepika Padukone’s graceful exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit stirred quite the storm—but the conversation has now turned to something far more meaningful. Actress and fellow working mom Neha Dhupia has stepped forward, fiercely defending Deepika’s decision to prioritize fair work terms and her personal life as a soon-to-be mother.

Reports suggested that Deepika requested a structured schedule and a fee of ₹40 crore—demands that allegedly clashed with the film’s producers. Critics were quick to judge, but voices of reason are emerging. Posting on Instagram, Neha Dhupia didn’t hold back. “For work-life balance to go beyond conversations, new moms need practical support and consideration. Instead, we often get shamed or sidelined,” she wrote.

Backing Deepika’s ask for professional boundaries, Neha added, “As a working mom, I support Deepika Padukone’s reasonable request for fair and considerate working hours.”

Earlier, acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam also praised Deepika’s stance, calling it a “rightful demand” and emphasizing the need for the film industry to adapt to actors’ evolving personal realities. He urged that casting should take into account practical needs, especially for artists who are also navigating motherhood.

Deepika had initially signed on for Spirit, reportedly impressed by the script and her role. However, her exit was prompted by unmet scheduling requests, fee disagreements, and even a language prep requirement. Eventually, Triptii Dimri stepped in, but the bigger takeaway here is Deepika’s bold message: setting boundaries shouldn’t be controversial—it should be respected.
