Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy-comedy Udta Teer opened to a modest Friday, picked up pace on Saturday, and went into Sunday with its final number still being counted. The early trade figures are a useful reminder that for a mainstream Hindi release, the shape of the weekend often matters more than the opening-day headline.
According to Sacnilk figures cited by The Times of India, the film earned Rs 4.10 crore on Friday and Rs 7 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, with 2,845 shows running, the live figure stood at Rs 1.63 crore by the afternoon. That puts the India net total at Rs 12.98 crore, while the India gross total stands at Rs 15.45 crore. Final Sunday numbers are expected only by night.
Day-wise India net, so far
- Friday: Rs 4.10 crore
- Saturday: Rs 7 crore
- Sunday (live): Rs 1.63 crore from 2,845 shows
- India net total: Rs 12.98 crore
- India gross total: Rs 15.45 crore
Overseas and worldwide totals
Abroad, Udta Teer had earned Rs 1.50 crore by the end of Day 2. That lifted the overseas gross to Rs 2.75 crore and the worldwide gross to Rs 15.98 crore at the same point. The overseas contribution remains a small proportion of the worldwide total, which means the film’s commercial fate is being decided primarily by domestic ticket sales.
Why the Saturday jump is the real signal
The opening itself was not large. The more meaningful reading is the movement from Friday to Saturday: a rise from Rs 4.10 crore to Rs 7 crore suggests that mixed reactions did not prevent the film from gaining some ground with audiences. For an original, star-led comedy playing across multiplexes, that day-two growth is the first sign that word of mouth might be working.
Udta Teer is directed by Akash A Kaushik, with music by Sachin-Jigar. Alongside Khurrana and Khan, the cast includes Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Gulshan Grover, Prammod Sanghi and Salim Siddiqui. The makers have positioned it as a fast family entertainer that mixes espionage with comedy rather than playing the spy setup straight. It is sharing screens with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, so the screen count and audience split are part of the story.
What to watch next
Because Sunday is still being counted, the running total is not the final verdict. The questions for the evening are whether the final Sunday number closes near or above Saturday’s Rs 7 crore and how much of the weekend audience returns on Monday.
For Hindi cinema, this is a familiar test. A middle-budget comedy can survive a soft opening if it gets a clear Saturday rise and then a stable first Monday. If the weekday drop is sharp, the film’s run becomes a one-weekend conversation. The Monday number will tell the truer story.
