Baghalpur memories remain etched in the mind of Samant Chawan, as he found the strings of his native place tying up with aesthetics of gully boy.
The designer graduated from NIFT, Delhi in 2004 with a collection that bagged many awards. Even after so many years, his styles remain simple and basic withstanding the turbulent trends of the fashion industry. Samant has frequently emphasized on his inspiration from the heirloom weaver of his native place – Baghalpur that fuels his never-ending innovation. Samant’s prefers to keep his style raw and earthy which is very much similar to them of gully boy.
The designer builds upon these commonalities while keeping his style constant. His cuts remain clean, basic and fluid and his design, timeless and refined. The collection had a monochromatic pallet juxtaposed to the setting of kitsch and rustic ambiance. Every ensemble has been elaborately conceptualized and cautiously constructed from yarn to fabric. The asymmetrical construction, dramatic jackets and well-balanced frills tuned with the harmonious design were the crown jewels of the collection.
