Sachin-Jigar take the hip-hop route with ‘Choozay’ from Udta Teer

Jigar Saraiya steps out as vocalist on Udta Teer's new track, pairing with Emiway Bantai and reuniting with Ayushmann Khurrana.

Sachin-Jigar reunite with Ayushmann on 'Choozay'

The Udta Teer soundtrack made a turn toward contemporary hip-hop on 5 October with the release of ‘Choozay’, a Sachin-Jigar composition that pairs Jigar Saraiya’s vocals with a verse from rapper Emiway Bantai. The track also resumes the composer duo’s working relationship with Ayushmann Khurrana, the film’s lead.

Jigar takes the mic

Jigar Saraiya is usually heard as half of Sachin-Jigar’s composing unit. On ‘Choozay’, the arrangement is different: he sings, while Emiway Bantai carries the rap. The pairing was teased ahead of release and is positioned as one of the more energetic entries in the album, built as a crossover between Bollywood melody and the rapper’s distinct style.

“With ‘Choozay’, we wanted to do something that felt fresh and had a completely different energy,” Jigar said in a statement. “Getting to sing on it myself and collaborate with Emiway made the experience even more exciting. It’s a very different space for us, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how audiences react to it.”

A working relationship resumes

The song extends a partnership that began on Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, where Sachin-Jigar composed the score and Khurrana lent his voice to ‘Maafi’. On Udta Teer, the roles shift: Jigar is now a performer as well as co-composer, while Khurrana leads the film as its star. The film also features Sara Ali Khan.

Why the crossover matters

Hindi film albums have increasingly courted non-film audiences by featuring artists with their own followings. An Emiway Bantai verse brings independent hip-hop listeners to a mainstream soundtrack, while Jigar’s vocal turn gives the track a second talking point beyond the collaboration itself. The logic is familiar in film music marketing: a featured artist brings their audience to the film, while the film gives the artist a bigger stage.

  • Jigar Saraiya sings on the track, a step beyond his usual composing role
  • Emiway Bantai’s rap layers contemporary hip-hop into the album
  • The release resumes Sachin-Jigar’s collaboration with Ayushmann Khurrana

The reception to ‘Choozay’ will be an early measure of whether the blend works for the film’s audience before the rest of the album arrives.
