With Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam set for a theatrical release on October 16, director Avinash Arun has explained one of the film’s key casting decisions: Ritvik Sahore as Aniket Nikam, the son of Rajkummar Rao’s special public prosecutor.
The choice did not begin with a conventional audition, according to Arun. The name came from casting director Anmol Ahuja, and hearing it produced an instant conviction. Asked why Sahore fit, Arun said, Ritvik ek honest, ek earnest, itna ek sensitive actor hai
, and called him very thorough with his craft.
The father-son thread
In Prahaar, Aniket is not the prosecutor but a son. That relationship gives the film a personal thread within a story inspired by Ujjwal Nikam’s professional journey and high-profile legal cases. Arun’s emphasis on the ensemble suggests the film is built around emotional proximity as much as courtroom drama.
Arun added that even the smaller characters were cast with effort, part of what he called a great ensemble.
Sahore’s screen lineage
For audiences who track Hindi screen careers, Sahore’s casting bridges two phases. He began as a child actor in Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Dangal, then built a streaming profile.
- Early films: Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Dangal
- Later projects: Flames, Indori Ishq, Campus Diaries, Jamnapaar
- Prahaar role: Aniket Nikam, son of Ujjwal Nikam
Why it matters
Arun comes to Prahaar after Killa and Three of Us, films known for restrained, interior performances. His method here—trusting a casting director’s suggestion and building the father-son relationship around a young actor with a sensitive screen presence—is consistent with that sensibility. Sahore’s path from a small role in Dangal to streaming work and now a theatrical release opposite Rao also shows a deliberate use of young actors who can carry intimacy without overplaying.
For viewers, that makes Prahaar worth watching as much for its casting choices as for its legal story. Keep an eye on Aniket’s scenes and on the small roles around the courtroom; the director’s comments suggest the film’s texture will be in those details.
