Hindi film producer Mahaveer Jain is moving into the regional market with Lambodhara 2.0, a Kannada high-concept social thriller from director Simple Suni. The film will open in both Kannada and Hindi on November 20, marking a cross-industry collaboration that reverses the usual dubbing route.
The premise
Suni is best known for relationship comedies such as Simple Agi Ondh Love Story, Chamak and Ondhu Sarala Prema Kathe. With Lambodhara 2.0 he moves into science fiction, using suspense and lively comedy to engage with digital addiction, social media validation and the search for entertainment that genuinely satisfies.
The story is built around a “Happiness Challenge” that rewards participants while quietly shaping their emotions. The film asks whether technology brings real joy or whether audiences are surrendering free will without noticing.
Why the Hindi rollout matters
Mahaveer Jain Films is known for backing Hindi features such as Uunchai, Ram Setu and Good Luck Jerry. It is also developing Sooraj Barjatya’s next film and Kartik Aaryan’s Naagzilla. This makes the collaboration notable for Hindi film readers: rather than a Hindi title travelling south, a Kannada genre film is being built for a pan-India audience from the start.
The simultaneous theatrical release gives the film a wider opening than a typical Kannada social thriller and places a regional storytelling voice inside the mainstream Hindi market. For audiences who track where Hindi cinema is drawing new material, the film is a useful signal.
For Jain’s banner, it is also a low-risk diversification. The project carries a theme that crosses language barriers, a Hindi actor in Kunal Kapoor, and a technological hook that can be promoted across markets without heavy dubbing costs.
The robot in the room
The production’s most distinctive element is JIA, a real humanoid robot created by Bengaluru-based Machani Robotics. The makers describe its role as a historic first for Indian cinema because JIA is not a prop but a major on-screen presence. That practical robotics layer could give the film’s science-fiction premise a physicality that pure visual effects often lack.
Suni is said to have presented the concept, visual execution and robotic integration to Jain before the Hindi rollout was locked. Jain then pushed for a nationwide Hindi release.
The cast and crew include:
- Lead actor Anil Shetty, making his screen debut as writer, producer and star under the MASS Production banner.
- Hindi cinema actor Kunal Kapoor, along with Saachi Bindra, Meghana Gaonkar and Mack D’Souza.
- Cinematography by Santhosh Rai Pathaje and music by Veer Samarth.
What to watch for
Lambodhara 2.0 is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on November 20. For Hindi film watchers, the practical next step is simple: note the date and make room for a Kannada-origin social thriller that is arriving in Hindi on the same day, complete with a live robotic co-star.
