Anurag Basu’s untitled romantic musical with Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela now has a specific day on the calendar: April 30, 2027. The announcement from T-Series closes a period of schedule drift that had placed the film in 2025, then 2026, before settling it in 2027.
T-Series shared a misty still of the two leads seated close together in a tea-plantation setting, and its caption framed the film as “A new story which will stay in your heart is ready to unfold on the big screen.” The visual is softer than a typical date announcement, and it points to the romantic register Basu is chasing.
For Bollywood Chronicle readers, the news is not only the new date. It is the conversion of a long-gestating project into a dated theatrical event, which changes how the film sits in the 2027 calendar.
What the announcement fixes
- Date: April 30, 2027.
- Leads: Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela, on screen together for the first time.
- Director and producer: Anurag Basu and Bhushan Kumar under T-Series.
- Title: still untitled.
Aaryan’s calendar gives the move a practical logic. He is currently shooting Kabir Khan’s Captain India, and Naagzilla is already lined up for 2027. Sreeleela is also coming off Ustaad Bhagat Singh and has Om Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood next. Giving the musical a late-April 2027 slot lets it stand apart from those campaigns.
The project was first teased by Aaryan with a rugged, bearded look, singing Tu Meri Zindagi Hai with a guitar. That glimpse, with the two leads riding a bike and sharing a bonfire, set expectations for an old-fashioned musical romance rather than a slick action film.
Sreeleela’s Hindi launch
The date makes the film a milestone for Sreeleela, who is stepping into a leading role in Hindi cinema. She has been generous about Basu’s method in the run-up, calling him “unreal” and describing his storytelling as “deeply layered”. That is significant: by her account, Basu’s process holds more than what audiences see on the surface, and the multiple schedule changes suggest the makers have chosen to protect his timeline rather than force an earlier slot.
For an industry that often announces dates before a film is shot, a long runway is a test of audience memory. A date this far out can claim a theatrical frame and signal confidence to exhibitors and distribution partners; it can also leave a project exposed if the campaign starts too late. The T-Series announcement walks that line by pairing the date with a single image strong enough to be remembered.
There is still no title, no trailer and no full cast list. The next useful markers for the audience are a title reveal and a first teaser. Until then, the long lead gives the film time to build its identity in a crowded year.
