Jailer 2’s Hindi version has answered the first question every theatrical release faces: can it hold after the opening weekend? On Monday, it did.
Early trade estimates put the Rajinikanth starrer’s Monday collection at Rs 3-3.25 crore nett in Hindi, nearly level with its opening-day number. The four-day total now stands at Rs 18.65 crore nett, according to PINKVILLA.
Why Monday is the test
Monday is the clearest early signal of audience word of mouth. A fall after the weekend is routine; a flat hold suggests the film is not depending only on fan-driven first-day demand. For a sequel, that is the difference between an opening event and a film with legs.
- Monday: Rs 3-3.25 crore nett, almost matching opening day
- Four-day cume: Rs 18.65 crore nett
- First-week forecast: Rs 27-29 crore nett
- Tuesday outlook: Rs 5 crore plus on the Dussehra holiday
These are trade estimates, not final audited figures, and they can shift as more data comes in.
Reading the trade estimate
Sequels often open on fan energy and then cool quickly. A Monday that sits close to opening day indicates the film is not exhausting its audience in the first weekend. That gives exhibitors a reason to hold screens into the second weekend rather than swap the title out immediately.
The holiday timing strengthens the case. A Dussehra Tuesday behaves like an extra weekend day, so a jump past Rs 5 crore would extend momentum before the next big release arrives.
A run without national chains
The sequel is running without a release in the national multiplex chains, the circuits that usually anchor a Hindi opening. According to the same trade estimates, a full-fledged release would likely have lifted the opening week by 30-50 per cent. That makes the current Hindi number more striking: the demand is being built outside the usual multiplex footprint.
Director Nelson Dilipkumar’s follow-up picks up three months after the first installment. Muthuvel Pandian is living quietly with his family while secretly infiltrating a dangerous idol-trade network run by the Kalpak family. When his identity is exposed, he has to protect his family and topple the network.
What to watch next
The Dussehra holiday on Tuesday could push collections past Rs 5 crore, with the first week likely to close in the Rs 27-29 crore range. That would give the Hindi version a comfortable run until Ramayana, the next big release, arrives to challenge for screens.
For a sequel released without national chains, the Monday hold is a useful marker: the audience is coming back, not just showing up on day one.
