Three days after its October 15 release, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has moved past the Rs 300 crore worldwide mark and become the early international-opening benchmark of 2026. Early estimates from Sacnilk put the worldwide gross at Rs 317.15 crore, with the Tamil version doing the heaviest lifting.
The day-three split
On day three, the film collected Rs 47.80 crore net in India across 14,604 shows. The Tamil version brought in Rs 34.60 crore from 7,802 shows, the Telugu version added Rs 8.50 crore across 21,000 shows, the Hindi version earned Rs 4.25 crore from 4,554 shows, and the Kannada version contributed Rs 45 lakh from 148 shows.
Those figures take the India net total to Rs 144.60 crore and the domestic gross to Rs 169.65 crore. Overseas, a Rs 47.50 crore third day pushed the international gross to Rs 147.50 crore. The day-three hold matters because it suggests the film is not living on advance bookings alone; it is still finding audiences in the theatres where its core Tamil audience is concentrated.
What the international record means
The film’s reported Rs 57 crore opening day in overseas markets, backed by roughly Rs 30 crore in advance bookings, outranked the reported international openings of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2, Ram Charan’s Peddi, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan and Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3.
The comparison is deliberately narrow: it covers opening-day overseas collection, not the entire theatrical run. Still, it sets a visible hierarchy among 2026’s star vehicles. For exhibitors and distributors, the international first day is increasingly the clearest early test of a pan-Indian star’s pull, and advance bookings are converting star equity into demand before the first show.
For Hindi cinema, that is part of a longer realignment. The biggest opening-day benchmarks are now being set by films conceived for multiple languages, not by single-language Hindi releases alone.
Why Hindi cinema readers should watch the Hindi version
The Hindi version is not the headline number, but it is the relevant one for this audience. Its Rs 4.25 crore from 4,554 shows is modest beside the Tamil haul, yet it signals how far a Tamil-led action sequel can travel in Hindi-speaking multiplexes.
- Tamil: Rs 34.60 crore from 7,802 shows
- Telugu: Rs 8.50 crore across 21,000 shows
- Hindi: Rs 4.25 crore from 4,554 shows
- Kannada: Rs 45 lakh from 148 shows
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 marks Rajinikanth’s return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty in the ensemble. If the Hindi version can add screens, the worldwide figure has room to climb beyond the opening-weekend surge.
The immediate test is the next weekend: whether the Hindi version expands beyond 4,554 shows while the Tamil version maintains its pace. That will determine whether Rs 317.15 crore is the floor for this run, or close to the ceiling.
