Jacqueline Fernandez has surprise Nayyi Navelli cameo

Nayyi Navelli opens with an unannounced Jacqueline Fernandez cameo, reuniting her with Yami Gautam Dhar after their 2021 horror comedy Bhoot Police.

Jacqueline Fernandez has surprise Nayyi Navelli cameo

Nayyi Navelli opens in cinemas today, October 16, with an unannounced asset: Jacqueline Fernandez appears for a few minutes in a crucial comic sequence. The cameo is small on the clock, but it is designed to be one of the film’s big laughs.

The appearance was not the centrepiece of pre-release promotion. That choice changes how the moment lands: instead of a trailer promise, it becomes an in-theatre discovery.

A second screen pairing

The cameo reunites Fernandez with Yami Gautam Dhar for the second time. Their first collaboration was the 2021 horror comedy Bhoot Police, which also starred Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor and Jaaved Jaaferi. Nayyi Navelli carries a different ensemble, including Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur and Sunita Rajwar.

For Hindi cinema watchers, the pairing matters because both actors arrive with distinct recent histories. Gautam Dhar has a National Award behind her; Fernandez’s year has been split between comedy and action. A short cameo is a minor event on paper, but it gives audiences a reason to see the film early.

The film around the cameo

Produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow and presented by Amazon MGM Studios, Nayyi Navelli is directed by Balaji Mohan. The story is credited to Himanshu Sharma and the screenplay to Divy Nidhi Sharma.

The premise is built for comic suspicion: a mysterious woman marries into a joint family in Meerut, and her husband’s younger brother becomes convinced she is a daayan, or witch.

  • The cameo: a few minutes, placed in a crucial, laugh-heavy stretch.
  • The reunion: the second Fernandez-Gautam Dhar screen pairing after Bhoot Police.
  • The production: Colour Yellow and Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Balaji Mohan.

Why a hidden cameo still works

Hindi cinema has a long habit of unannounced star appearances, and the device still has theatrical value. A cameo kept out of the trailer protects the comic timing of the sequence and gives the audience something to carry out of the hall. In a market competing with streaming, that discovery is one of the few pleasures the cinema can still keep to itself.

For Fernandez, Nayyi Navelli becomes her second big-screen appearance of the year after Welcome To The Jungle. Last year she was seen in the comic caper Housefull 5 and the action film Fateh, and she made a special appearance in the song Money Money from Raid 2.

The role is brief and should not be mistaken for a leading turn. But the surprise is the story: a familiar face, a few minutes, and a film that lets the cinema audience meet it there first.
