Norman Lloyd was the world’s oldest living actor, continuously working in the field at the age of 105. Norman Nathan Lloyd, an American actor, producer, and director, was born on November 8, 1914, and had a nearly century-long career in the entertainment industry. He began his career in 1923 and worked in every major aspect of the industry, including theatre, radio, television, and film. After reaching the age of 100, Lloyd’s final picture, Trainwreck, was released in 2015.

He worked with notable companies as the Federal Theatre Project’s Living Newspaper unit, the Mercury Theatre, and the Group Theatre during his apprenticeship with Eva Le Gallienne’s Civic Repertory Theatre in the 1930s. Lloyd’s lengthy professional affiliation with Alfred Hitchcock began with his appearance in the film Saboteur as a Nazi operative (1942). He also featured in Spellbound (1945) and was a producer on Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Hitchcock’s anthology television series.

He played Bodalink in Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight (1952), Mr. Nolan in Dead Poets Society (1989), and Mr. Letterblair in The Age of Innocence in his acting career, which spanned over 60 films and television shows (1993). Lloyd attracted a new generation of fans in the 1980s when he starred as Dr. Daniel Auschlander on the medical drama St. Elsewhere.
