E! True Hollywood Story began as a series of specials on March 29, 1996, but has now grown into a weekly biographical documentary series. The regular airing of the program began in October 1996. The murder of Rebecca Schaeffer was the subject of the first True Hollywood Story. Each episode is either two hours long, depending on the aim. There have been almost 500 True Hollywood Stories published.
The series was nominated for Emmy Awards in 2001, 2002, and 2003, as well as Prism Awards in 2009. The episode on Gilda Radner won a Gracie Award in 1998, and the series was nominated for Emmy Awards in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
According to an announcement made on August 22, 2019, the series will begin on October 6, 2019. On November 12, 2020, the reboot series was renewed for a second season, with a 2021 premiere date.
