Catwoman (Selina Kyle) is a fictional character created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane and featured in American comic books published by DC Comics. She is frequently associated with Batman. She first appeared as “the Cat” in Batman #1 (spring 1940), and she is one of the Dark Knight’s most lasting foes, as well as a member of his rogues’ gallery.
However, she has been portrayed as an anti-heroine and has become Batman’s most well-known love interest, with numerous stories illustrating their complicated love-hate connection.
Catwoman has appeared in a number of Batman-related media adaptations. In the 1960s Batman television series and the 1966 Batman picture, actresses Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and Eartha Kitt introduced her to a large audience.
In 1992’s Batman Returns, Michelle Pfeiffer played the character. Catwoman, starring Halle Berry, was a critical and commercial disappointment in 2004 and bears little resemblance to the Batman character.
In the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway played Selina Kyle. Camren Bicondova portrayed a young Kyle in the 2014 television series Gotham, whereas Lili Simmons portrayed an older Kyle in the series finale. After voicing her in the 2017 film The Lego Batman Movie, Zo Kravitz will play the character in The Batman in 2022.
Catwoman is ranked 11th on IGN’s list of the ‘Top 100 Comic Book Villains of All Time’ and 51st on Wizard magazine’s list of the ‘100 Greatest Villains of All Time.’ On the other hand, she was voted 20th on IGN’s list of the ‘Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time.’
