The Man from Nowhere is a 2010 South Korean action thriller film directed by Lee Jeong-beam and starring Won Bin. With 6.2 million admissions, it was South Korea’s highest-grossing picture in 2010.
On October 1, 2010, the film was released in the United States and Canada. When the only person who seems to understand him is kidnapped, the film chronicles the story of a mysterious and shadowy man (Won Bin) who goes on a deadly rampage. It’s also Won Bin’s final on-screen appearance till 2020.
The picture earned 712,840 admissions on its debut weekend on August 6–8, keeping it at the top of the box office for five weeks. When it closed its theatrical run on November 17, 2010, it had sold a total of 6,228,300 tickets. In South Korea, the picture grossed a total of US$42,484,155. CJ Entertainment gave the picture a limited theatrical distribution in North American theatres on October 1, 2010, and it grossed US$35,751 on its first weekend. The picture grossed $528,175 in the United States and Canada after being expanded to 19 cinemas.
Dimension Films purchased the rights to make an English-language remake of The Man From Nowhere in March 2012; the adaptation will be written by Shawn Christensen, who wrote and directed the 2012 short film Curfew. The remake will be produced by John Wick director Chad Stahelski and Jason Spitz, with a script written by Derek Kolstad for New Line Cinema, it was announced on August 5, 2020.
In March 2016, the Indian adaptation Rocky Handsome was released, directed by Nishikant Kamat and starring John Abraham, was released.
